“Light and color and the way they change are my favorite aspects of painting. When I endeavor to learn new ways to express what I am seeing in nature, I invariably come to new understandings which take me in a new direction or to a different level than I was pursuing.
When someone asks me how long it took to create a piece of art, I tell them my age because while in the process of creating, experiences from different times in my life come to mind or heart and that experience is added to my initial direction with that piece. For instance, in the botanical series the butterflies which can sometimes fly thousands of miles are shown still and pristine. All the movement resides in the rooted plant beneath. I can see the little girl who inspired that idea - half lady, half tomboy and finding joy in the juxtaposition, beauty in the balance, laughter in the hidden meaning revealed for all to see.”
