Judy Gibson King
"My earliest venture into the world of creating with textiles involved cutting apart a pair of white bobby socks to make sweaters for my dolls. Minor success with that project caught my interest and I continued to play around with various ways to use fabric. Projects have run the gamut from basic home décor cotton pillows and curtains all the way to elegant beaded silk wedding dresses. I took a rather lengthy foray into the world of ceramic art working with three dimensional shapes and textures. My collection of fabrics (batik, vintage, cotton, silk, linen, and anything in between) continued to grow and eventually spilled over onto my clay worktable. Love of re-purposing fabric and love of creating sculptural shapes finally merged into what I now make, coiled textile vessels. Each piece has a unique, multi-dimensional quality that combines function with beauty." -Judy Gibson King
Judy recently moved to Temple, Texas after spending eleven years in North Carolina and two in Oklahoma. She has a small studio where she designs sculptural fabric baskets that are both decorative and functional. While she does use new fabrics, her favorite textiles are beautiful fabrics that she has re-purposed from unloved clothing items.
