featuring photography by
sarah pagona bruce barshop polly harrison and samira messner
This collection brings together four professional photographers with a diverse interpretation of the human figure and portraiture, reflecting courage and vulnerability.
These images highlight Sarah Pagona's Body Politics, the street photography of Bruce Barshop, Hispanic touring circuses by Polly Harrison, and the Sisterhood of Incarcerated Women in Ethiopia by Samira Messner. (Some images may be considered graphic. We are addressing such issues as individual and systemic abuse and violence toward women, women's issues of liberty and imprisonment, trafficking and indentured labor. Please be prepared to consider such difficulties with which people live every day around the world and imagine how we can work to bring freedom to hearts and minds, structures and laws.)

closed october 1, 2017 but we still have some of their beautiful images in the gallery and in the online gallery for you
browse the collection!
The two artists we have brought together for our Desert / Flora exhibit make an intimate statement regarding the juxtaposition of harmony and contrasts in nature; Richard, with his crisp, sharp edges of tightly cropped agaves in stark white space, and Christina, with her poetic petal forms softly fading into darkness. Each one, in their own environs, makes a daily ritual of documenting the essence of their subject. There is an intimacy with that which we are familiar and these images evoke their own private conversations between one another while we eavesdrop on them.
We are pleased to present to you this exhibit. SAFOTO coordinates an annual festival of photography exhibits in San Antonio and the Texas hill country through a juried selection.

OCTOBER 15, 2016, 1-5pm MEET THE ARTIST & DEMONSTRATION AT 3PM
"A change in scenery has been an ongoing theme in my encaustic paintings as it relates to a growing concern for environmental issues affecting an underlying change in the landscape. The mixed media and beeswax application provides a means to build up texture and transparent color where surface markings represent scars caused by distress upon the land. Therein lies a bittersweet affection for the places I care for and have a commitment to protect." -Jeannette MacDougall Exhibit runs through November 19, 2016
